What a 200 KB cap means for your photo
200 KB is generous for a passport-style photo, so you'll usually keep crisp detail with very little visible loss. Several big exam portals top out their photo at 200 KB, and because it's a maximum, the goal is to land at or just under it.
At this size you rarely have to sacrifice much — the quality search typically only nudges the compression a little to fit, so what you upload looks almost identical to your original.
- UPSC (CSE): photo 20–200 KB, signature 20–100 KB, JPG
- GATE: photo 5–200 KB, JPG
- RRB NTPC: photo within a 5–200 KB range, JPG
- SSC and IBPS photos are smaller (20–50 KB) — check your own portal
Get the dimensions right, not just the KB
A photo that's 200 KB but the wrong shape will still be rejected. Most Indian exam photos are 3.5×4.5 cm (about 200×230 px). Image Resizer PC lets you set the size in pixels, or in centimetres with a DPI, and can center-crop to an exact box so your face sits correctly.
Set the dimensions first, then target 200 KB — that way you satisfy the portal's shape and its weight limit in one go.
- Exam photo is roughly 3.5×4.5 cm (~200×230 px)
- Use cm + DPI if the form specifies a physical size
- Center-crop to an exact box to avoid rejection
Resize to 200 KB offline, in a batch if you like
Because 200 KB keeps good quality, it's a great target for photos you'll reuse across several applications. Image Resizer PC runs entirely on Windows — no upload, no account, no watermark — and you can resize a whole folder of photos to 200 KB at once.
